Dr. Michael Moncure is a member of TMC’s Department of Surgery, and a Professor of Surgery at UMKC and the Paul Coffey Endowed Chair of Surgery for Education. He has received many honors and awards, including being named one of Ingram’s Magazine Top Doctors. Dr. Moncure has special interests in Violence Prevention, Surgical Education, Shock, Sepsis, and Surgical Outcomes as well as appropriate and efficient surgical and medical billing and capture of charges. His major focus of research interest is microvasculature damage, as a result of shock, sepsis, and tissue trauma. He is currently writing manuscripts regarding research involving reactive oxygen species generation, leukocyte adherence, and vascular permeability following shock. He also has a keen interest in strategies to improve outcomes of critically injured patients in the ICU. Dr. Moncure and his colleagues currently looking at a number of factors such as ventilator associated pneumonia prevention and interventions by allied health colleagues in the interest of avoiding complications, reducing stay in the hospital, and improving functional outcomes.
