Legacy Health System
Cynthia Aks has worked in healthcare since a young teen as a hospital volunteer aspiring to be a surgeon since the age of 12. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree and practiced as a Critical Care nurse for a short time before forging her path as a surgeon. Her philosophy of care focuses on numerous aspects of a person’s life that can result in ill health. Integrative healthcare stems from the concept of holism. As an Osteopathic trained physician, she learned the interconnectedness of the body. As ill health is a result of multiple factors, effective healthcare should be multifaceted. As she have grown as a healer, she further appreciates holistic care on a much deeper level which has taken her down the path of lifelong learning in integrative modalities to allow her to approach the care of her patients from a more mind-body perspective.
She has always been a forward thinker and strives to be at the forefront of treatment for breast cancer patients. As a dedicated breast surgeon, she was an early adopter of learning to perform her own ultrasound and stereotactic needle biopsies, ductoscopy, accelerated partial breast irradiation, intraoperative radiation, oncoplastic surgical techniques, reverse lymphatic mapping, cryoablation, neoadjuvant endocrine therapy, and years ago became certified with the City of Hope in cancer genetic counseling and testing and others.
She has focused study on nutrition, breathwork, mindfulness, aromatherapy, yoga, and yoga therapy, Reiki, auricular acupuncture, ayurveda, and cancer exercise training to be a more comprehensive care provider. She feels, though she is a surgeon, her responsibility as a healer extends to helping her patients to understand the mind-body connection, lifestyle, and environmental factors and how that impacts their health, wellness, and survivorship.
She is humbled and grateful for her patient's trust.
